Emily is a printed textiles designer for the fashion industry; designing prints for women's
wear in the luxury market. Her designs
hold a luxurious beauty to them, with a feminine, bohemian style. Emily is passionate about colour, her work
stays true to this and show cases her eye for beautiful colour composition and
combination.
Emily grew up in the UK , in Hertfordshire not far from London;
she studied Textiles throughout her education and chose to continue the subject
further on a BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing. During the two-year
course she developed advanced skills in clothing manufacture and construction,
as well as additional textile knowledge and technique. After this course she was offered a place at
The University of Northampton to study Fashion Design and Printed Textiles BA
Hon’s.
Emily’s travel experiences around South East Asia are what
inspire the majority of her work. Warm, energetic and adventurous vibes are
what can be seen in her prints.
Being in London and other cities she
has visited around the world and absorbing the culture and style the streets
have to offer is very informing to her design work, she can gage what is
trendy, exciting and new from what people are wearing and engaging in.
Stimulating her knowledge by travel,
visiting new points of interest and exhibitions stretches her creative mind
allowing new styles and inspirations into Emily’s work.
Photography is a passion Emily enjoys that runs alongside her work as a
Printed Textiles Designer. Her
photography is her recordings of inspiration she finds on her travels. capturing
moments and looking back at them. Gives Emily the feeling she felt when she was
there, injecting the emotion and feelings into her work.
Emily
uses her photography and picks out colour combinations from them. She enjoys extracting colour tones using
Photoshop, however she is also known to achieve this by using paint and mixing
colours to extract the right tones.
Choosing
colour is something Emily loves to do, and is very important within her work.
Emily’s
design process leads on
from her research and photography, to painting and drawing.
Emily
works on a large scale and her paintings are an expression of the research she
has gathered.
Colour testing on fabric is
essential to achieving the correct shades.
From
paintings to fabric,
Emily uses the process of testing and sampling.
Emily
enjoys using a variety of printing methods to test how her fabric and colours
work.
For her
most recent project, Emily focused on Silk Habotai and used Acid Dye Print
Pastes to screen print her fabric.
Emily’s products
are hand screen-printed using specialist dyes and methods.
Blogging is Emily’s main resource for keeping on
top of current trends and affairs. She enjoys collating inspiring secondary
images.
Emily’s
vision is to
continue her passion for creating beautiful fabric, designing prints to be sold
for the fashion industry. She will be looking to join a multi national
corporation in the design team, either in the luxury market or high end, high
street level. Her aim is to produce
beautiful prints and fabrics to sell and enhance fashion garments for women all
over the world. Emily aspires to
eventually start her own business and will use her experience gained in
industry to create a successful printed textile design company.
